Phagocytic Activities of Reticulo-endothelial System in the Rabbits with Induced Hemolytic Anemia

Abstract

|
In the literatures, it has been often inplicated that the shortening of the life span of the erythrocytes in hemolytic anemia patients are somewhat activities of RES. Observing the disappearance rate and related to the distribution of the blocking agents labeled with radioactive iodine, the author has investigated the phagocytic activities of RES in the rabbits with hemolytic -anemia induced by administraticn of phonylhydrazine hydro?chloride, and following results were obtained.
1. Disappearance of the blocking agents from the circulating blood in the experimental group was faster than that in the control group.
2. In the experimental group, the phagocytic activities of the spleen were considerably decreased, whereas those of the liver and bone marrow were markedly increased.
3. These experimental results indicate that the phagocytic activities of, RES in the rabbits with induced hemolytic anemia were markedly increased. Moreover, the shortening of the life span of the erythrocytes is ascribable not only the factors of orythrocytes but also to the increased function of RES.
